Douglas E. Lahman

Douglas E. Lahman, of Harrington, passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2016, from his home.  He was 85.  Mr. Lahman was born in Preston, MD to the late Elwood and Magnolia Lahman.

Mr. Lahman retired from the Public Works Department from the city of Harrington.  He held other jobs in his younger days including working at the DuPont Cattle Farm in New Castle County, and farming. 

In his spare time, he enjoyed watching old western movies and NASCAR.  He will be remembered as someone who enjoyed living the simple life.  He enjoyed the simpler and quiet things in life.  Even though he was quiet and reserved, he was never hesitant to speak his mind and set things straight.  He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and his tootsie rolls.  He will be sadly missed.

He is preceded in death by a son, Christopher Lahman; daughter, Loretta Lynn "Becky" Cornwell; siblings, Orvel Lahman, Linwood Lahman, Lennon R. "Bobby" Lahman Sr., Katherine Corkell, Eleanor Rogers, Erma Bradley.

He is survived by his long time companion, Lois Morgan of Harrington; children, Leroy (Cheryl) Lahman of Harrington, Elrick "Rick" D. Lahman of Laurel, Diane (Tony) DeVine of Bear, DE, Debbie Lahman of Wiemar, TX; brothers, Donald Lahman of Aster, FL, Merrill E. Lahman of Federalsburg, MD; 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made payable to Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington, DE, to help with funeral expenses.
