Walter Gygrynuk, of Harrington, passed away at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital on Sunday, June 10, 2018. He was 92. He was the son of the late, Nicholas and Anna Gygrynuk.
Walter was a veteran of the Army Air Corp and the U.S. Air Force serving from 1943-1956 where he was a crew chief. In his own words, "I'd rather fly than eat". By trade, Mr. Gygrynuk worked as a Boeing Crew Chief Engineer Mechanic, then went to work for Schagrin Gas Company as a fleet mechanic, upon his retirement from there, he had his own radiator shop in Harrington for many years. Walter was a brilliant mechanic and was even awarded a mobile auto electronic patent on one of his inventions.
Walter played football and ice hockey in high school, and was a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Flyers. He also enjoyed camping and swimming in his free time.
He is survived by his children Denise (Hal) Blades, Sharon (Steven) Bailey, Walter J (Cristina) Gygrynuk, Robert Michael Gygrynuk, and Michael Patrick Gygrynuk; 10 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 109 Dixon St, Harrington, DE 19952 on Thursday, June 14, at 11 AM. Interment will take place at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Dagsboro, DE. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the church.
