S. Eugene (Gene) Skinner Obituary

S. Eugene (Gene) Skinner, Harrington, passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at the Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, he was 92.  He was born in Queen Anne, MD to the late, S. Ethel and John J.M. Skinner.

Mr. Skinner was a graduate of Tri-County High School of Queen Anne, MD, where he excelled at soccer.  He was drafted in the United States Army after high school and served his country proudly overseas in Japan during the post WWII era.  Mr. Skinner and his family settled in Wilmington for many years, where he went to work for the Benjamin F. Shaw Co. as a contract manager for over 35 years.

In his spare time, Mr. Skinner did enjoy watching baseball and football, the Philadelphia Phillies was his favorite team.  To say family was his life was an understatement, they were the most important thing in the world to him.  He would do anything for any one of them and had an open door policy for helping any of them.  His main objective after his retirement was taking care of his wife and taking care of his family's needs.  He was very proud of his grandsons and always doted on them.  He enjoyed clipping news articles about his family for his scrapbook, and always stayed in touch even with his extended family.  He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and will be sorely missed.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, R. Benson, J. Leroy, Herman R., J. Gilbert, William T. Skinner; sisters, Catherine Malthan, Elsie Brown, Louise Geib, Ruth Taylor, Esther Medinger, Gloria Dumel. .

He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Julia M. Skinner; son, Eugene S. Skinner (Marilyn); daughters, Susan Driver, Carolyn Morris; grandsons, Albert E. Driver, Christopher E. Skinner, Terry Morris, Alex Morris; great grandchildren, Keira Morris, Erik Skinner.

Due to covid restrictions and the health and safety of the family, services for Mr. Skinner will be held privately at the Asbury United Methodist Church of Harrington.  Burial will be at the All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.
