Joseph E. "Joey" Hockensmith, Harrington, passed away on Friday, July 9, at the Bayhealth-Sussex Campus, he was 53. Joey was born at Langley Air Force Base, Virginia to the late, Ruthie Hockensmith and Cyril Hockensmith.
Joey was a local commercial truck driver who currently drove for the R & R Co. Joey was a hard worker, always working, and loved driving. When he was not busy working, he enjoyed watching sports, his favorite teams were the Minnesota Vikings, and the New York Yankees. He also liked NASCAR, and was lucky enough to get to talk to his favorite driver and get an autograph from Bobby Labonte. When he was a youngster, he enjoyed playing sports, especially little league, being out on the water, and riding mini bikes.
Joey was well known for his sense of humor and laugh. He enjoyed being funny and making others laugh. If you knew him, you loved him. He loved his family whole heartedly, and loved spending time with his grandsons and spoiling them. He will be sadly missed.
In addition to his father, Joey is survived by his son, Joseph Hockensmith-Casson; daughter, Veronica Hockensmith; brothers, Randy (Dana) Hockensmith, Ken (Sharon) Hockensmith; sister, Cindy (LaDone) Garrard; 3 grandsons.
Services for Joey will be on Tuesday, July 13, at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy, Harrington, at 12 noon. A visitation for family and friends will start at 11AM. Interment will take place at the Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.
