John Schulties Obituary

John A. Schulties, 66, passed away on March 10, 2021, with his loving wife by his side after a battle with Alzheimer's. Born on November 13, 1954, in Dover, Delaware, he was the eldest son of John Phillip (Phil) Schulties and the late Mary Ann Schulties (nee Messick). He was preceded in death by his wife of 28 years, Carol Ann Schulties (nee McCullum).

John attended Harrington High School and was a member of one of the earliest classes to graduate in 1972 from the newly-created Lake Forest High School. After graduation he joined the Dover Police Department where he was part of the formation of the motorcycle unit and had the opportunity to train other officers, something he was extremely proud of. John also spent many years in the construction industry, which included opening his own residential construction business. Following retirement as the Assistant Director of Inspections & Enforcement for Kent County, John moved to Ohio where he was embraced by loving friends and family. He enjoyed sitting on his back porch sipping coffee and watching the deer.

Living most of his life between the Felton and Harrington area, John was deeply rooted in the community. He served on the Lake Forest School Board for 17 years before retiring from his position in 2017. John was a devout Christian who was a active member of Manship Chapel. He especially enjoyed being able to help out organizations with their building projects by lending his construction expertise.

The thing that John held most dear to him were his family and friends. He took great pride in his children and was always proud of their accomplishments. He enjoyed coaching various sports and attending their activities when they were growing up. His favorite job was being "Poppy" to all of his grandchildren. He loved to see the smiles on their faces and treasured all of the moments they spent together.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Gina Schulties (nee Papushak); his children and their spouses, Mari Beth Young, Michael and Rachel Schulties, Gregory and Jordan Schulties, and Ashley Glanden; his grandchildren, Adya and her husband Allen Mowery, Avery Schulties, Jacob Schulties, Jayden Richards, Colton Schulties, Abigail Schulties, Vincent Richards, and Liam Richards; his brothers and their wives, Jack and Peggy Schulties and Duane and Sue Schulties; and an extended group of dear friends and family.

Friends may call at the BUSCH FUNERAL HOME, 7501 RIDGE ROAD, PARMA, OH 44129, FROM 6:00 PM-8:00 PM, SATURDAY, MARCH 13, 2010 with facial covering and social distancing.
