James Kennedy Obituary

James A. Kennedy (“Pops”) of Milford DE, formerly of East Rutherford New Jersey,  passed away at home on February 19, 2021 at the age of 85.  He was the son of the late Basil and Rose Kennedy (nee Berry).

Born in Pittston PA, Mr. Kennedy proudly served in the U.S. Army Reserves until 1963 and was retired from William C. Reppenhagen, Inc. of Jersey City where he served as Treasurer.

Mr. Kennedy and his wife Nancy were very active members of the St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in East Rutherford, NJ where they taught Sunday School and led Pre-Cana. They enjoyed a weekly ritual of church, grocery shopping, and spending time with family.

Mr. Kennedy was an outgoing man who loved to be around people.  He was an amazing cook, growing his own vegetables and often hosting parties including a spectacular yearly 4th of July fireworks show at his lakefront summer house in Pennsylvania.

An avid Giants fan, Mr. Kennedy was known for his sense of humor, contagious laugh and telling the best jokes.   In his younger years, he enjoyed playing pool, bowling, and basketball.  More than anything, Mr. Kennedy loved his wife, his family, and their beloved cat “Spike”.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Kennedy is preceded in death by his loving wife of  55 years, Nancy Jane Kennedy (nee Small); daughter in law Jeannie Kennedy; brother, Charles “Chaz” Kennedy; sisters, Nadine Gordon, June Rasch, and Mary Bell.

Mr. Kennedy is survived by his sons, caregiver James T. Kennedy, George Kennedy, Robert Kennedy, and Richard Kennedy; daughter, Kelly McGrath; 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild on the way.

Due to the Covid restrictions, services will be held at a later date.
