Gwendolyn P. Gillespie, 76 of Felton, DE passed away on Friday, September 8, 2023 at Bayhealth- Kent General Hospital. She was the daughter of the late, Carolina L and Sigmund J. Paczkowski.
Mrs. Gillespie was a mom and homemaker while helping her husband, Marshall run their business, Coastal Communications, until his death in 2003. When her children were younger, Gwendolyn was actively involved in supporting their extra-curricular pursuits, instilling in them her love of Christmas, and taking them to the beach every weekend in the summer. She also liked doing crossword puzzles, sudoku, reading, and drinking coffee. She was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic church where she volunteered time in the ministries there. In more recent years, Gwendolyn cherished time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her easy going, loving spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, Gwendolyn is preceded in death by her husband, Marshall E. Gillespie; brother, Wayne Paczkowski; and sister, Jacquelynn Baney.
She is survived by her children, Marshall “Bud” Gillespie (Somjai), Jacquelynn “Angel” Pierce (David), Samuel “Skip” Gillespie (Tina), Rhonda Gillespie (Richard Schroeder), Joseph Gillespie (Nadine Dill); grandchildren, Breanna Pierce, Teresa Pierce, Gianna Faykus (Tyler), Kaylee Gillespie, Edward Gillespie, Leo Dill, Clara Gillespie, Joseph Gillespie, Meagan Greenwood, Ali Gillespie; great grandchildren, Elijah Faykus, Genevieve Faykus; brothers, Sigmund P. Paczkowski (Denise), George Paczkowski (Donna); brother-in-laws, Herman Baney, Glenn A. Gillespie; sister-in-law, Shirley Paczkowski; and other extended family.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 15, 2023 at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 109 Dixon St., Harrington, DE. A visitation will be held from 5:00PM-7:00 PM on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at the Thomas E. Melvin & Son Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Hwy. Harrington, DE 19952. Interment will follow the Funeral Mass on Friday at Delaware Veteran’s Cemetery, Millsboro, DE.
