Bruce Williamson Obituary

Bruce L. Williamson 71, of Bridgeville, DE, passed away on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at Tidalhealth Nanticoke Hospital with his beloved wife by his side.  He is the son of the late, Thomas Fletcher Williamson and Elsie Hutton.

Bruce was a proud 1969 graduate of Bridgeville High School where he was part of the football and baseball teams. Following high school, he was drafted into the Army to serve in Vietnam. Upon his return home, Bruce went to work for the Dupont Nylon plant in Seaford, DE where he had a 40-year career. After retiring, Bruce went back to work for the Streets Department of the Town of Bridgeville for a few years.  Always desiring to be a school teacher, Bruce then became a substitute school teacher for the Woodbridge School district, serving mostly at the high school and middle school.

Bruce was an active part of Union United Methodist Church in Bridgeville, DE, where he taught Bible classes in VBS, the God’s Sparks Middle School Youth Group, and Youth Sunday School classes, and was active with the United Methodist Men. He also was a volunteer with Bridgeville’s Apple Scrapple Festival until his health would not allow him to continue.  He previously coached little league baseball when his youngest son played, and was an archery instructor for Delaware 4H, particularly the Bridgeville Mustangs 4H club.

Bruce had a way of making people feel comfortable, and was often sought out for counsel on a variety of matters.  He was quick witted, and mischievous, with a large heart that impacted many.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, Bruce is preceded in death by his sisters Rita Ann Shindledecker, Irene Pinder, and Marjorie Oliveira; and brothers Bobby Correll, and Charles Correll.

He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Tammy Williamson; sons Paul, Mark and Carson Williamson; granddaughters, Starla and Madison; a brother, Ronnie Williamson and several nieces, nephews and extended family, and his beloved fur babies that gave him much joy.

Bruce's family would like to give a special "Thank You" to the nurses and staff of the CDU at Tidalhealth Nanticoke for all they did to care for Bruce, and his family, during his last couple of weeks.

A viewing for Bruce will be held at Union United Methodist Church, 2 N. Laws St. Bridgeville, DE, on Monday, February 21, 2022 from 5-7pm.  A funeral service celebrating the life of Bruce will be held on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Hwy. Harrington, DE 19952. Interment will immediately follow the service at Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington, DE.
