Asa Flemming Sr. Obituary

Tech Seargent Asa E. Flemming Sr. (retired), Frederica, passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2021, at the Bayhealth-Sussex Hospital, he was 82.  He was born in Homer, Michigan to the late Buckley and Leora Flemming.

Mr. Flemming served his country proudly in the United States Air Force, where he retired after over 20 years of service.  He served a tour in Vietnam, and his entire military career was as a jet engine mechanic.  After the service, he found his passion of wood working.  Not only was he a great craftsman, but he also enjoyed carving.  He built many great pieces like chests, bookcases, lawn ornaments, jewelry, just to name a few items.

Mr. Flemming was an avid outdoorsman.  When he was younger, he enjoyed hunting and camping and being one with nature.  He enjoyed being a survivalist and learning the craft of prepping and survival.  He had a love of all animals and passed that down to his children.  He was a great story teller, and loved to tell stories and make jokes.  Above all, he loved his family immensely, and will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and will be greatly missed.

Mr. Flemming was a member of the VFW, Freedom Baptist Church, and also a member of the Frederica Senior Center where he taught wood carving classes.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Theodore Flemming and Virginia Peabody, and his beloved dog Olivia.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Flemming; children, Karen K. Gamm; Asa Flemming Jr. (Mary), Nancy Saylor (David), Alice Green (Jim); 6 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be planned at a future date in the summer, and burial will take place at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery in Millsboro.
