Amanda Hockensmith Obituary

Amanda N. Hockensmith, of Dover, passed away at home surrounded by family, on Wednesday, Sept. 15, at the age of 37.  She was the daughter of Cynthia Allaband and A. Randall Hockensmith (Dana).

Amanda graduated with a bachelors degree in Psychology from Delaware State University.
She was a born fighter, leading a full life despite living with Spinal Musclar Atrophy (SMA). When she was born, doctors only gave her two years to survive.  She laughed in the face of adversity and beat all odds against her. Amanda was persistent in using her experiences with this disease to help others with the same condition. Her unique case even made it into several medical journals.

Amanda enjoyed doing crafts, drawing, and coloring.  Her biggest joy in life was taking care of her children, raising several others, and being a part of such a large family.  Amanda was a bright and generous spirit.  She was always positive, and wanted to be the brightest person in the room.
Amanda seemed to know what you were thinking before you even had the chance to think it. She touched the lives of everyone she came into contact with.  She was also an avid animal lover and rescuer, especially of pit bulls. She never went anywhere without her service dog, Kyah.

Amanda is preceded in death by her grandparents, Julia and Joseph Allaband, Sr. and Ruthie Hockensmith; sisters, Amber Rose and Megan Marie Hockensmith.

In addition to her parents, Amanda is survived by her children, Arianna Dill, Julian Hockensmith, Justice Simon, Cee'anna Simon; nieces and nephews she was raising, Navaeh Evans, Nazier Fountain, Alesia Burton; her life partner and father of her children, Tyrone Simon; siblings, Kimberly Graham, Shawnnette Rieken, Todd Hockensmith, Toby Hare; cousin who was like a brother, Joey Casson-Hockensmith; grandparents, Cyril Hockensmith, William and Dani Harvey; nieces and nephews; Camila and Camdyn Harden, Aiden and Jaiden Trinidad, Scarlett Hockensmith, Izayah Wright, Caleb and Kennedy Rieken; very special best friend who was as close as a sister, Lori Baldwin; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family and friends.
