William L. Welch Sr.,84
FELTON — William L. Welch passed away Wednesday, Mar. 28, 2012 in Bay-Health Kent General Hospital. He is the son of the late Mildred and W. Carroll Welch Sr.
Mr. Welch worked various jobs in his lifetime, but spent most of his working career for Culligan Water Conditioning. He also worked as a rattle snake wrangler in Texas, lumbering in California, mechanic, and a master carpenter. Carpentry was his favorite skill and passion and he made numerous items for family and friends such as benches, swings, rocking chairs, gliders, and playhouses for the grandkids, etc. He was truly a jack of all trades and would tackle any project without hesitation.
His favorite pastime included fishing. He fished every chance that he could. Mr. Welch was also a huge Phillies fan and watched practically every game. He enjoyed watching Nascar and country
music channels on TV as well.
He will be remembered as a great father who truly loved his kids. Not only did he build many wooden masterpieces, but he built one heck of a good family.
Mr. Welch was a proud life time member of the Harrington Moose Lodge #534. He worked hard to receive the Pilgrim Degree. He held various offices at the Moose, including Governor. Along with his family, he spent countless hours at the Moose helping out with many functions and dinners.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary E. Welch; infant daughter, Patricia Ann; siblings, David, Louis, W. Carroll Welch Jr. & Lillian Boone.
He is survived by his sons and daughters, Shirley Kellam and her husband George of Panama City, Fla., William "Ted" Welch and his wife Laura of Milford, DE, Donna Brown and her husband Jody of Bridgeville, DE., Rose L. Patterson of Dover, DE. M. Ellen Cain and her husband Thomas of Houston, DE.,and William L. Welch Jr. and his wife Jessica D. of Felton. Brothers, Paul Welch of Georgetown, DE, Edgar Welch of Harrington, DE. Sisters, Elevyn Huckobby of Orange Park, FL., Pauline Gardner, Joan Vigginni, both of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
Service will be held Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. Interment will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.
