HARRINGTON - William Dyer went to be with the Lord on May 25, 2013 at the Milford Hospice Center. He was born in Marcus Hook, Pa. to the late Clarence E. and Madalyn B. Dyer.
Bill graduated from Caesar Rodney in 1947. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1952 and was discharged as a sergeant. While in the Army he played football, going to the Pacific Championship in Hawaii.
After the Army, he went to work as a sales rep for the HJ Heinz company where he retired in 1985 after 35 years. In his spare time, Bill enjoyed playing golf. He also enjoyed going to yard sales and auctions with his wife Joyce. Bill was an avid sports fan, and his favorite team was the Phillies. He was an avid reader and loved to watch old westerns. He was a regular at the Harrington Senior Center whenever the game of Canasta was being played. Mr Dyer also loved the game of baseball and played on local teams.
Mr. Dyer was past president of the Harrington Lion Club, a member of the Harrington Moose Lodge, Harrington senior Center, Calvary Wesleyan Church, and prior member of the City of Harrington-Board of Adjustments.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean Dyer and his brother, Roger Dyer.
Survivors include his loving wife, Joyce B. Dyer of Harrington; beloved dog, Mr. Wiggles; son, Roger E. Dyer of Camden-Wyoming; step daughters, Karen S. Guyer (Jerry)of Ellendale and Andrea P. Wolf of Palm Harbor, Fla.; step-son, J.R. Kimmey (Vickie)of Harrington; grandchildren, Selina, Carla, Katy, Jessica, Scott, Nina, Kristin, Meredith, and Taylor; great grandchildren, Carmen, Rayla, Ramon, Cannon, Ciera, Gage, Caleb, Sydney, and Cole.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tues., May 28, 2013 at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington. Visitation will be one hour Prior. Interment will be private.
In lieu of Flowers donations are requested to Calvary Wesleyan Church- Promise Land, Delaware Hospice Center, or to the Harrington Senior Center.
