Victor M Chevrestt

d. July 17, 2022

Victor Manuel Chevrestt, 81, of Harrington, DE, passed away on July 17, 2022.

Victor was born in Puerto Rico but left as a young child in 1952 to work on a farm in Buffalo, NY with his brothers. He moved to New York City as a teenager where he laid roots and started a family. Victor was a hard worker from an early age. Whether it was picking beans in Puerto Rico, or working in factories to support his family, he took pride in all that he did. His work eventually brought him to Harrington, Delaware where he lived for almost 28 years with his wife, Linda, and son Manny. His greatest pride and joy came from his family. He was a loving and doting father and grandfather. He was incredibly proud of his children and loved to brag about their successes.

Victor was always physically active. As a young man, he enjoyed boxing, baseball, and exercising. He didn’t have money to spend on exercise equipment, so he made his own by pouring cement into five-gallon buckets. He also loved playing card games, dominoes, watching baseball, and listening to music such as Doris Day, Elvis Presley, and anything that sparked nostalgia. He diligently watched the news which he gladly reported back to anyone who would listen (or not listen). He mostly loved to give reports on the weather. He warned his family of any impending storms, hurricanes, flooding, and tornadoes even if it was happening nowhere near them. He loved to dance, although he was not very good at it. But more than anything, he loved to make people laugh. If you asked him how he felt, he would tell you, “With my fingers.” If you asked him where he came from, he would tell you, “From my mother.”

He was proceeded in death by his first wife, Maximina Chevrestt, his beloved grandmother and grandfather, Maria, and Emilio; his brother, Angel, and many of his uncles.

He is survived by his wife, Linda, mother, Blanca, his siblings, Miguel, Jose, Enrique, Migdalia, Daniel, Rene, and Helen; his children, Maritza, Mary, Cynthia, Blanca, Veronica, Luis, and Manny; his daughter-in-Law, Jami, sons-in-law, Fernando, Raymond, and Samuel his stepchildren, Sammy, Robert, and Rosie; 17 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Pepe.

Victor loved nature and the outdoors. He expressed deep concern for our environment. In lieu of flowers, please plant a tree in his honor either here on the site or in a special place of your choice.
