Sylvia L Willey

d. June 9, 2021

Sylvia L. Willey, Greenwood, passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at her home surrounded by her family that she deeply loved and who loved her.  A sweet angel on Earth, has now earned her heavenly reward of eternal rest.  Sylvia was born in Salisbury, MD to the late, Posey A. and Bertha L. Shupe.

Sylvia worked in the family business, Willey Knives, taking care of the accounting.  Prior to that, she worked for over 20 years with the Greenwood Trust Co.  Both jobs she enjoyed immensely and enjoyed interacting with all the customers.

In her spare time, Sylvia enjoyed shopping.  She also enjoyed attending church at the Church of God of Prophecy in Seaford, where she loved to sing in the choir.  Sylvia was described as the "song bird" of the family, as she also enjoyed playing the piano as well as singing.

Sylvia was often described as an angel on earth. Her faith and love of God were always ever present.  She truly had a servants heart who loved to share God's love to all that she met, and cared enough to make sure everyone around her was saved.  Her demeanor was always loving, caring, and giving.  She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mom, and grandmother, who truly loved her family and loved to spoil her grandchildren.  Earth has lost a precious soul, but Heaven has gained another angel.

In addition to her parents, Sylvia is preceded in death by her siblings, Pauline Lane, Jim Shupe, David Shupe, and Jehu Shupe.

She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Walter Gerald Willey; daughter, Geri Elliott; son, Matthew (Stefanie) Willey; grandchildren, Gracie Elliott, Faith Elliott, Bryce Willey, Rachael Needam, Howie Hammond, Megean Sluter; siblings, John Shupe, Junior Shupe, Milton Shupe, Joy Nichelson, and Sam Shupe.

A Memorial Service for Sylvia will take place on Sunday, June 13, 2021, at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy, Harrington, at 2:30PM.  A visitation for family and friends will start at 1:30PM.
