Sylvia Jean Kemp

Sylvia Jean Kemp, Dover, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 8, 2026, at the Dover Place Assisted Living, she was 78. She was born in Milford, DE to the late Medford Conklin and Janette Conklin-Reynolds.

Mrs. Kemp’s life centered around children, whether it was her own children, grandchildren, or the ones she taught as a teacher’s aide for the Delaware Guidance Services in Lewes. She loved kids and being in that environment of teaching was something she excelled in. She loved her family immensely and was always focused on their needs and once grandchildren came into the picture, she relished spoiling them as much as possible.

Mrs. Kemp loved to socialize and play cards. She enjoyed going to the Harrington Moose and hanging out with her friends. She was very outgoing, caring, and was a good hearted person. If you knew her, you loved and adored her. She will be sadly missed.

Mrs. Kemp was a member of the Felton United Methodist Church, Harrington Moose Lodge, and a lifetime member of the Felton Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary.

The family would like to extend special recognition and thanks to Walter Kemp for taking such great of Mrs. Kemp the last two years.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a brother, Bill Conklin.

She is survived by her daughters Tanya Gutierrez, Erica & Kevin Dickerson; grandchildren, Lauren and Jacob Dickerson; and a brother, Dennis Conklin.

A Funeral Service will take place at the Thomas E. Melvin & Son Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Hwy., Harrington, DE on Friday, May 15, 2026 at 12 Noon, with a visitation starting at 10 AM. Burial will be private.
