Stephen M. Hamsher, of Harrisburg, PA and formerly of Harrington, DE, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at Christiana Hospital, he was 66. Stephen was born in Allentown, PA to the late, Darcey D. and Ethel M. Hamsher.
Stephen worked in maintenance for the Delaware State Fairgrounds for over 14 years. Prior to that, he was an auto mechanic for IG Burton, a job he thoroughly enjoyed.
Stephen had a love of aircraft and anything aviation. He regretted not being able to join the US Air Force but with strict vision restrictions, he was unable to do so. Stephen was a history buff and enjoyed learning about the past, especially anything about WWII. He enjoyed recanting the past and his time growing up in Pennsylvania with his parents, especially his father whom he idolized. In addition to being around aircraft, Stephen also enjoyed going to car shows.
Stephen was a member of the Sons of the American Legion where he made many friends. Over the past several years, he led a quiet life, things slowed down for him due to his health complications. He will be missed by all that knew him.
In addition to his parents, Stephen is preceded in death by his long time companion, Sue Dowiat.
He is survived by his siblings, Eric (Robin) Hamsher; Cheryl (Punky) Harrington; uncle, Larry (Carol) Findlay of Cincinnati, OH; nephews, Gavin, Colby, and Troy and their families; numerous cousins; his companion's family whom he thought of as his own, daughter, Sunshine Wright; grandchildren, Skie Yeager, Jordan Thompson; great grandchild, Jacob Yeager.
A Celebration of Life Service for Stephen will take place at the Harrington American Legion at a later date, please check back for updates on date and times.
