BRIDGEVILLE - Roy S. Porter Sr. of Bridgeville, formerly of Harrington, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013 at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital. He was 68. He was the son of the late Leon and Lola Porter.
Mr. Porter served his country proudly in the U.S. Army before joining the Delaware National Guards. He took over Porter & Sons Cleaning in 1987 from his father before retiring in 2005. He was a workaholic who enjoyed fishing whenever he could.
Mr. Porter loved watching U of D football, and enjoyed bowling. He was an avid oldies music fan who knew every song, who sang it, and what year it came out. He especially loved Elvis and singing karaoke. Mr. Porter loved Italian food especially spaghetti. He deeply loved his family and grandchildren, and enjoyed being with them whenever he could. He will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Cheryl Porter; and a great-granddaughter, Aryia Raelyn.
He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Bonnie Porter of Bridgeville; children, Roy S. Porter, Jr. of Harrington, Dawn Mitchell of Felton, Joy Huey of Lincoln, Julie Magrew of Felton, Matthew Porter of Laurel, and Tanya Beish of Camden; grandchildren, Steven, Eric, Jace, Drew and Kalie of Harrington, Tylor, Devan, and Ashley of Felton, Myranda and Myriah of Lincoln, Courtney, Peyton, Jeremy and Taylor of Felton, Rachael and Gracyn of Laurel, Christopher, Gwendolynn, Gabrielle, and Sebastian of Camden; brothers, Gary Porter of Harrington, Terry Porter of Felton and Richard Porter of Milford; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013 at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington. Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Milford Community Cemetery.
