Robert Thompson

d. July 9, 2025

Robert "Bobby" Thompson, Harrington, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at the Bayhealth-Sussex Hospital, he was 74.  Bobby, the oldest of five children, was the son of the late, Alvin "Buck" and Nancy Thompson.

As a young man, Bobby enjoyed playing football and basketball at Harrington High School, and was also part of the Boy Scouts.  Growing up, he spent a lot of time at Wheelers Park next to their home.  Professionally, Bobby worked for Playtex of Dover.  He was a man of many skills which included, a millwright, electrician, plumber, carpenter, welder, and pipefitter.  As a pipefitter, he got to travel all over the United States.  Bobby was a hard worker and was always busy when he should of been resting, but he enjoyed what he did.

Bobby was a true nature lover, and enjoyed being outdoors.  Surfing, sailing, tanning, and spending as much of his free time at the beach were some of his favorite things to do.  Playing pickleball and being with friends was also something he enjoyed.  Bobby met the  love of his life, Teresa, as a young man, at the Harrington Pharmacy where she worked.  They had a whirlwind romance and got engaged the next Valentine's Day, and married May 1, 1977, during a family reunion, hosted by his parents, at their home.  With Teresa, they enjoyed traveling, going to music festivals, beaches, and the mountains.  They even had a business together selling health supplements.  Together they loved to bless others whether it was friends or strangers.  They started a local chapter of the Brown Bag Club which they ran for years, and sponsored several homeless families and went on numerous missions trips to other countries.  Bobby was a devoted Christian and lived his life to serve God.  As their children were growing up, Bobby helped coach Little League, and supported them in soccer, dance, pageants, martial arts, and scouts.  Bobby tirelessly cared for Teresa when she became sick all the way till she passed away 3 months after their 25th wedding anniversary.  After she passed, Bobby devoted his life to his grandchildren and supported them in all their endeavors which included soccer, theatre, choir, art, dance, music, martial arts, and the scouts, often video taping their events.

Bobby's zest for life and robust personality will forever be missed by his family and countless friends, and he will be truly missed.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Teresa Thompson, and a sister, Susan "Susie" Thompson-Powell.

Bobby is survived by his son, Trinity "Trin" Thompson and former partner, Donna Gonyea, whom Bobby treated like an honorary daughter; daughter, Katrina "Kati" Thompson; sister, JoAnn Moore; brothers, Jerry Thompson, Berry Thompson; grandchildren, Terran Thompson, who was Bobby's right hand man, Caleb Thompson, Naomi "Crowley" Thompson, Poemi "Comic" Martial, Kiami "Jay" Marshall, Michael Richards lll, Lola Sonnett; many friends and extended family.
