It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Allen Rockwell, 73, of Milford, Delaware, who passed away on October 15, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones. He was a beloved father, stepfather, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, and a cherished friend to many.
Bob was born to the late Warren and Margaret Rockwell. He grew up in Lewes and graduated from Lewes High School in 1969. Immediately after graduation, Bob joined the United States Air Force, where he spent several years overseas in Japan, Korea, and the Philippines, as well as serving at several domestic bases. His career culminated in Tucson, Arizona, where he supported the A-10 Warthog as an aircraft maintenance craftsman. After proudly serving his country for more than 20 years, Bob retired in 1989.
Beyond his professional life, Bob was a dedicated father and husband. He spent a significant portion of his life coaching the Tucson Pop Warner Eagles Mighty Mite division, where his own sons were among the young players learning discipline through gassers and up-downs for offsides penalties. After returning to Delaware, Bob found a passion for hunting and fishing. He found great joy sharing his love for fishing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On many a pleasant day, one of his grandkids would be driving him to the pier or enjoying boardwalk fries or people-watching.
Bob had a special bond with each of his grandchildren, whether they were related by blood or not. He would often brag about how smart or talented they were, sharing their photos and stories with pride. He showered them with love and gifts they didn’t always need, always making sure they were cared for. Bob was the heart of his family, ensuring that everyone was always taken care of.
Bob is survived by his wife of 25 years, Sandra Rockwell; his children, Steven Rockwell and his mother Kyong Sen, Dallas Rockwell and his wife Amanda; his stepchildren, Crystal Timmons-Bryant and her husband Chad, Frank Wilson and his wife Susan, and Susan Timmons Townsend; his grandchildren, Aiden Timmons, Dane Wilson, Melissa Holochwost, Dana Timmons, Charles Rockwell, Savanah Rockwell, and Marcus Rockwell and several great grandchildren, and extended family who will all forever cherish his memory.
He was predeceased by his parents, Warren and Margaret Rockwell; his brothers, Larry and Carl Rockwell; and his great-grandson, Shane Pennell.
A memorial service to celebrate Bob’s life will be held at 1 PM at the Thomas E. Melvin & Son Funeral Home, Inc, 15522 S. DuPont Hwy, Harrington on Tuesday, October 22, 2024. A gathering of friends will take place one hour prior starting at 12 Noon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a youth sports league of your choice in his honor.
