R. "Dickie" Smith

d. July 13, 2013

Richard “Dickie” Smith, of Farmington, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2013, at the Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital.  He was 56.

Mr. Smith was a heavy equipment operator by trade.  He worked for a long time at Cerillos Nursery prior to being a forklift driver.

In his spare time he loved doing carpentry and woodworking.  He made several furniture pieces for his family.  He also enjoyed gardening, watching Nascar, listening to music, fishing and hunting.  His latest passion was playing golf on the Wii.

He will be remembered as a big guy with a big heart who was like a teddy bear.  He would give good advice to others but wouldn’t follow that advice himself.  He was always ready to help everybody out.  He definitely loved his family more than life itself, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Smith; and a brother, Calvin Smith.

He is survived by his mother, E. Louise Smith of Farmington; wife of 17 years, Karen Smith of Farmington; son, Richie Smith of Farmington; daughter, Bobbi Jo Smith of Seaford; step-Son,  Paul E. Mandehr of Chicago, Ill; step-daughters, Tammy Marie of Minnesota and Christy Irene of Madison, WI; sisters, Bonnie Smith of Bridgeville and Madonna Holt of Farmington; grandchildren,  Shana Smith of Farmington, Zachary Smith, Kayla Sowell and Ryan Sowell of Seaford.

Memorial Service will be held on Friday, July 19, 2013, at 12 pm, at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South Dupont Hwy., Harrington, DE 19952.  A visitation for family and friends will be one  hour prior to the service.  Interment will be in St. Johnstown Cemetery, Greenwood.
