Phyllis Ann Morton, of Milford, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at her grandson's home, surrounded by her family. She was 93 years old.
Mrs. Morton was born in Harrington, Delaware, the daughter of the late Samuel C. and Emma Johnson.
Phyllis devoted much of her life to caring for her home and family as a homemaker, while also working various jobs over the years. She was perhaps best known in the community for her time at Bayhealth/Milford Memorial Hospital, where many affectionately knew her as the “TV Lady.” She took great joy in helping others, volunteering her time at the hospital and working in the hospital gift shop. Her generous spirit extended beyond the hospital as well—she often visited nursing homes, cared for those in need, and happily took friends to dinner, church, or concerts.
When she was not spending her time serving others, Phyllis enjoyed crocheting, needlepoint work, shopping, cooking, bird watching, and sightseeing with her late husband. Above all, she treasured time with her family. Whether hosting family dinners or watching loved ones open gifts during Christmas, these moments brought her great happiness.
Phyllis was a woman of strong faith who enjoyed attending church on Sundays and looked forward to church hymn sings and gospel outings. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Milford and frequently attended Ellendale United Methodist Church, Cedar Neck United Methodist Church, and Pilgrim Chapel.
Known for her feisty spirit and vibrant personality, Phyllis had a way of lighting up any room she entered. She never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. Her warmth, kindness, and lively nature will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard F. Morton; her siblings, Harold Johnson, Samuel Leon Johnson, and Hazel Johnson; and her daughter-in-law, Mariann Morton.
She is survived by her sons, Charles Douglas Morton Sr. and Daniel Franklin Morton (Carla); her grandchildren, Christina T. Elliott (Tim), Charles D. Morton Jr. (Amy), Carla D. Lewis (Kenny), and Danny Morton (April); nine great-grandchildren; and a special great-grandson, Charles D. Morton III.
The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., with visitation for family and friends beginning at 12:00 noon at Thomas E. Melvin & Son Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Highway, Harrington, Delaware. Interment will follow the service at Hollywood Cemetery in Harrington.
