Nelson Wayne Timmons

d. December 3, 2020

Nelson Wayne Timmons, Dover, passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2020, at the Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, he was 76.  Wayne was born in Dover, DE to the late John Fred Timmons and Mattie Collum.

Wayne served his country proudly in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, and served aboard the USS Wasp.  One of his most fascinating experiences was securing the returning space capsule out of the ocean from one of the first NASA space missions.

Wayne worked as a lab tech for Playtex of Dover for many years.  When he was not hard at work, you better believe he had a pole in hand fishing.  He enjoyed every kind of fishing and some of his most memorable moments in his life were taking his grandsons fishing with him.  When he was not fishing, he enjoyed spending time with his dogs.  Early in his life, he enjoyed singing which many people commented that he sounded like Kenny Rogers.  He also enjoyed playing on the computer with his friends.

Wayne will be remembered as an old fashioned guy, who at times may appear to be grumpy, but had a heart of gold and was very sweet and kind especially to his family.  He had an ornery side and liked to scare his daughters' friends when they were growing up.  He liked to help others without ever expecting anything in return.  He will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather, and will be missed immensely.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Francis Eugene Timmons and Jack Timmons; and adopted daughter, Renee Smith.

He is survived by his daughters, Karen Timmons, Lisa (Mike) Reynolds; son, Brian Timmons; brother, Vernon (Angeline) Timmons; 7 grandchildren, Jessica Vautard, Heather Vautard, Samantha Shockley, Bryce Timmons, Jennifer Reynolds, Peyton Timmons, Hunter Timmons; 5 great grandchildren, Kyleigh, Trinity, Jordan, Bryson, and Jayla.

Services for Wayne will be on Monday, December 7, 2020, at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy, Harrington, at 11AM.  A visitation for family and friends will start one hour prior at 10AM.  Interment will take place at the Barratts Chapel Cemetery.  We are adhering to the CDC and Delaware guidelines of occupancy limits, set at 50 persons, social distancing, and masks.
