Mary E. White, age 58, passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2016, surrounded by her loving family at home. She was the daughter of the late, Marvin and Josephine Thorpe.
Mrs. White spent the past nine years happily being a homemaker, mother, and wife. She worked previously at Home Depot, where she met her husband George. They exchanged their vows in Tennessee and had a traditional Cherokee wedding.
Mrs. White enjoyed traveling and was never afraid to just pack up and go without any plans. She enjoyed going to various evangelistic events in this area as well as into PA, NJ, and the Carolinas. Gardening was a hobby of hers, and she grew vegetables to can, ferment, and freeze. She was an amazing cook who could create delicious dishes on the spur of the moment.
Mrs. White was always helping others in need, whether it was with clothes, food, or a place to stay. She kept busy by volunteering her time whenever needed. Her persistence was well known and when she got an idea in her head, she followed through with it and never changed her mind. She was friendly, outgoing, always smiling, and had a distinctive laugh. She knew how to make others laugh, and put them at ease. She will be remembered as having the personality of a true redhead, with a heart of gold. She was a devoted wife and mother, and her charismatic nature will be missed by all who loved and knew her.
Mrs. White belonged to the Grace & Mercy Temple of Praise of Dover.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. White is preceded in death by her brother, M. Eddie Thorpe Jr. and a sister, Jayne Benjamin.
Mrs. White is survived by her loving husband, George White of Felton; son, Edward “Shawn” Ellmore of Smyrna; daughters, Tiffany (Cynthia) Ellmore of Smyrna, and Sameena Thorpe of Felton; stepson, Jason Wyatt of Salisbury; stepdaughter, Cynthia (Jamie) Medlin of Gaithersburg, TN; grandchildren, Jasmine, Gavin, Donovan, Jennifer, Madeline, and Marcus; 2 great grandchildren; brother, Gary Thorpe of Dover; nephew, Herbie Hitchener of Richmond, VA and a niece, Jayne Lynn Basiliko of Harrington.
