Mrs. Schulties grew up helping on her family’s farms until she was old enough to go to work at Playtex in Dover.  While working at Playtex, she met her future husband, Phil Schulties, and they were soon married.  Several years later, she left Playtex so she and her husband could start their family.  Eventually, she became a stay at home Mom to raise their three sons.  She supported and encouraged her “boys” in all of their activities, from their education to Cub Scouts and sports.  She could often be seen helping in the concession stand at the Harrington Moose Fields.  Camping trips were a big part of the family vacations.  Many fond memories were made while camping under the stars and watching the bears raid camp trash cans on the Skyline Drive.  At home, she enjoyed growing flowers and tending to her rose garden.  In their retirement, she and her husband spent much of the winter vacationing in Florida.

Her sons joyfully remember her as a mother beyond all others.  They learned many “life lessons,” from her as their role model.  She learned how to cook at a young age when her mother passed away and she helped take care of her siblings.  Her cooking skills were passed along to her sons as they never remembered a meal she fixed that they did not like.  Her kind and caring ways and willingness to help others will always be remembered and cherished.

Mrs. Schulties attended the Manship Chapel and was part of the Viola Ruritans.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Frances and Edna Mae Messick; her 5 brothers, Earl, Charles, Robert, Lee, and Preston Messick; as well as her sisters Edna Mae Hurd and Ruth Ellen King.

She is survived by her loving Husband of 61 years, John P. Schulties of Felton; sons, John (Gina) Schulties of Felton, Jack P.(Peg) Schulties of Felton, Duane C.(Susan) Schulties of Felton;         9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and her sister Glenna Thompson of Felton.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington, at 1 PM.  Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service.  Interment will be at Hopkins Cemetery, Felton.
