HARRINGTON - Mary "Emily" Rothermel, of Harrington, died Friday, June 17, 2011, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital. She was 89. She is the daughter of the late Harry D. and Louise L. Minner.

Mrs. Rothermel was a seamstress for George Sherman Shirt Factory for over 26 years. She also helped her daughter in law for many years in her beauty shop. In addition, she took care of her husband and did babysitting on the side.

In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking and sewing. She was a die-hard Phillies fan. Everyone who knew Emily, knew that she could talk. She was well known for telling you like it was as well. She will be greatly missed.

Mrs. Rothermel was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church for over 50 years. She loved to help with the church suppers, and bowled on the church league.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert M. Rothermel; and brothers, Harold P. "Bailey" Minner, John L. Minner, Harry "Dickie" Minner, and George Minner.

Survivors include her son, Donald L. Rothermel and his wife Mary of Milton; sisters-in-law, Kathleen "Kay" Minner, Grace Minner, Louise Minner; grandchildren, James S. "JC" Rothermel of Harrington, Kristal Porter and her husband Jay of Milford; and great-grandchildren, Austin, Christian, Hayleigh, Brittany, and Jayden.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2011, in the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the "Raise the Roof Fund," Trinity United Methodist Church, 63 Commerce St., Harrington, DE 19952, in memory of Emily Rothermel.
