Mary Sue Latka, of Harrington, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2012, at Bayhealth-Milford Memorial, she was 68. She was born to the late Frank J. and Yvette G. Leger.
Mrs. Latka received her degree from Burlington County College in New Jersey.
Mrs. Latka retired in 2005 from Ocean Spray Cranberries after being there for 15 years as an Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator. She moved to Delaware in October 2006 with her husband. Unfortunately his health took a turn for the worse, and he passed away in mid 2007. They had a great love and were true soul mates. He always referred to her lovingly as a “piece of work.”
After her husband’s untimely death, Mrs. Latka decided to volunteer her time for a worthwhile cause. She became a volunteer for the Delaware Department of Justice, as a Senior Victim Advocate in conjunction with the Attorney General Office. She started in Dover but was moved to Georgetown to work in the domestic violence section. She loved her job there very much.
In her spare time, she enjoyed crafts especially stained glass. She loved shopping at Wal-Mart as well. She will be remembered as a very fun person who was also feisty and stubborn at times.
She was preceded in death by her husband Stanley Latka.
She is survived by her sister, Frances Cronin of Coon Rapids, MN; brothers, Peter Leger of Hilo, Hawaii and Richard Leger of Powder Springs, GA; a very good friend, Trina McCloskey; and her cats, Suzy Q and Sammy.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 18, 2012, at 1 pm, at the St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Milford. Interment will be held at Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.
