Marion W. “Reds” Shockley Jr. of Felton, passed away, Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2015, at Atlantic Shores of Millsboro, at the age of 93. He was the son of the late Marion Shockley Sr.
Mr. Shockley worked as a diesel mechanic shop foreman at Tristate and Blue Hen Spring Works for several years. Prior to Blue Hen Spring Works he was employed at Kirby and Holloway, and also worked at Brown Thawley of Milford for 30 years as a shop foreman.
Mr. Shockley was the first president of Slaughter Beach Fire Company back in 1956, after their reorganization. He was a former Boy Scout leader and Moose member and he enjoyed bowling on a league in Milford for many years.
Mr. Shockley was a practical joker who loved to be outdoors, fishing, gardening and cutting grass. He was kind, compassionate, outgoing, enjoyed socializing with his neighbors and helping others. Mr. Shockley enjoyed step son Jeff’s company and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Mr. Shockley is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Kay Shockley of Felton; stepsons, Howard White Jr (Mary) of Sunrise, FL, Charles Jeffrey White of Felton, Greg S. White (Towanda) of Jenera, OH; stepdaughters, April K. Long (Mike) of Baltimore, MD, and Lisa R. Griffin (Jimmy) of Bridgeville; grandson, Layton Pritchard of Milford; granddaughter Leann Garret of Milford and numerous step-grandchildren and great grandchildren; and a very special friend, Joe Connelly of Felton.
Services will be Monday, November 30, 2015, at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington at 1pm. Interment will follow at the Milford Community Cemetery. A visitation for family and friends will take place one hour prior to the service.
