Marie R. Pyne

d. May 24, 2024

Marie R Pyne, 86, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2024, at her home, in Harrington, Delaware. She was surrounded and comforted by family members on this day and the weeks preceding her death.

Marie was born in Pennsylvania. She was the eldest of four children of the late Katherine Fisher and William Jones.

Marie was preceded in death by her son Donald R. Pyne Jr, her sisters Dolores Hughes, Ginny Birmingham, Lillian Fisher, and her brothers Mel Fisher, William Jones and Charles Jones.

Marie is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Donald R. Pyne and her cherished children, Donna (Patrick) Gallagher, Jack (Jennifer) Pyne, Kathleen Velasquez, David Pyne, Steven (Vaughn)  Brizell-Pyne, and Timmy Simmons.

Marie also leaves her heartbroken grandchildren, Patrick Gallager, Kelly (Albert) Eisele, Deanna (Kevin) Stumpf, Michael (Courtney) Velasquez, Eliza Velasquez, and Gabriela Velasquez, Jeffrey Pyne and Justin Pyne, as well as her great-grandchildren, Alyssa Gallagher, Andrew Eisele, Ben Eisele, Olivia Stumpf, Charlotte Stumpf, and Joseph Velasquez.

She is also survived by her sisters Sharon Roberts and Charmaine Capobianco, Cousin Robert Diminico, and many nieces and nephews.

Marie was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She will forever be remembered for her culinary skills and giving and loving nature to her family and friends. She was always making others laugh through her impromptu funny and sarcastic comments.

Marie loved bowling and instilled this love in most of her children and grandchildren.  Her family and friends also considered her the #1 Fan of the Philadelphia Phillies baseball team.  The games were always on in her home.

Marie devoted selfless hours to her children’s grade schools, by volunteering in the schools’ libraries, sporting events, or wherever assistance was needed.

Marie was an avid and skilled craftswoman. Her early days consisted of sewing children's clothing, which developed into crocheting afghans, baby blankets, and ponchos for her girls, and the neighborhood girls as well.

This love for crafts developed into cross stitch and knitting, progressing to skills with ceramics, in fact partnering with her good friend, Helen at a local ceramic shop, CERAMIC HUT, in the community of Pennypack Woods in Philadelphia.  Her craft-inspired journey turned towards Quilting and Sewing when she and her husband retired to Harrington, Delaware. She was involved in many quilting guilds across lower Delaware and Maryland, and eventually assisted in teaching her passion to others.

Most of this hard and timeless work was made for and given to her children, grandchildren, and other family members and friends, which now offer a very real and tangible memory of Marie.

Finally, Marie immensely enjoyed traveling the world with the “love of her life” Don, on many cruises around the globe. She always looked forward to her next adventure with Don to see more of the world’s most beautiful places...

Marie loved her children, grandchildren, and family to the fullest. There was nothing she could not nor would not do for them. Her family has been so blessed to have her in their lives.  She was truly an amazing woman: wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to all.

She will be greatly missed but forever celebrated.
