Margaret "Peggy" Holden, age 80, of Harrington, passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2015, at the Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital. She was born in Staten Island, NY to the late Frank and Elizabeth Colgan.
Peggy graduated from St. Louis Academy in Pleasant Plains, NY, and also completed a semester in Stoney Brook Community College. During the 1950's, she worked for the New York Telephone Company. She later worked as a child care counselor in Mount Loretto on Staten Island from 1971 to 1978. In 1978, she moved to Delaware where she worked at Rand Whitney in Harrington. She later worked as a child nutritionist in the Lake Forest School District until her retirement in 2006.
Peggy was very active with the Veterans Of Foreign Wars Department Of Delaware, 6921 Harrington Blue Diamond Post in Harrington, where she served as President, Sr. Vice President, Chaplain Sr. Vise in District, Secretary, and Guard in MOCA. She also tutored in the Metropolitan United Methodist Church in Harrington. While living in Staten island, she also belonged to the Land Ho Club in the VFW.
She is predeceased by her husband, Stephen Holden; and brothers, Frank and George Colgan.
She is survived by sons, Joseph M. (Diane) Barclay of Harrington, James E. (Sharon) Barclay of Cocoa, FL, Richard P. Barclay of Butler, MO; daughters, Margaret T. (John) LaMantia of Staten Island, NY, Heather A. (Ernie) King of Harrington; 9 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.
Services will be Tuesday, November 24, 2015, at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington, at 11 AM. Interment will follow at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery, in Millsboro, where she will be laid to rest with her husband. A visitation for family and friends will take place Monday evening from 6 to 8 PM.
