Margaret B. "Peggy" Mitchell, Greenwood, passed away peacefully and entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Friday, July 5, 2024. She was 105 years of age. Peggy was born in Uniontown, PA. to the late Williard Donovan and Lucinda Sanner Donovan Steele.
Peggy was a homemaker and lived her entire life in Kent and Sussex Counties: (Dover, Harrington, Farmington, and Greenwood).
Peggy faithfully attended the Calvary Wesleyan Church in Harrington since 1981, participating in many Bible studies, quilting, and always helping to prepare food when needed. She loved to pray and read her Bible, and loved cooking for family gatherings, baking, and canning vegetables grown in her own garden.
Peggy has touched and enriched numerous lives in her 105 years on this earth and will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother with deep and abiding faith and love of family and her God.
The last 2 years of her life were blessed by the daily presence of her compassionate and dedicated caregiver, Milly Roblero. The two formed a mother-daughter-like bond. Milly allowed Peggy to spend the majority of her final days in her "happy place", her cozy home.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings: James Donovan, Edna Grace Webb, Norma Cochran; daughter, Pamela Messick; granddaughter-in-law, Taddy Butler; first husband, Lieutenant John M. Butler; and her husband of 50 years, Lester J. Mitchell ("Mitch").
She is survived by her sons, Roger Butler (Faye) of Greenwood, Michael Mitchell (Pam) of Fuquay-Varina, NC; grandchildren, David Messick (Stephanie), John Butler (Jerri Lynn), Karen Carrow (Jeff), Kevin Butler, Allie Mitchell, Christa Mitchell; 4 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren; and 4 generations of nieces.
A Celebration of Life service for Peggy will be on Friday, July 19th, at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington, DE, at 1 PM. A public visitation will be held Starting at 12 noon. Interment will be at the Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.
