Mabel Donophan

Mabel Donophan, 96, Felton, passed away on June 29, 2024 at home with her family. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Letti Phillippi.

Mrs. Donophan was a loving, caring, homemaker who enjoyed taking care of her family of 5 children.  Her family bought a farm in Harrington in 1943, where she was raised with her 8 siblings.   While Mrs. Donophan’s husband was serving in WWII, she worked at a Junior Powder Plant as an inspector of shells.  She attended St. Stephen’s Church for many years.

Mrs. Donophan enjoyed gardening, watching TV, reading her Bible, and traveling to Arizona.  She was a people person who loved talking to others.  Mrs. Donophan will be dearly missed.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Donophan; son, Steven Donophan and 7 brothers.

Mrs. Donophan is survived by her children, John A. Donophan, David Donophan, Gloria Nelligan, Mary Ann Donophan; sister, Maxine Nichols; 6 grandchildren, and large extended family.

A celebration of life service will be held at 12 PM (noon) on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Hwy., Harrington, DE 19952. A viewing will be held one hour prior beginning at 11:00 AM. Interment will immediately follow the service at Mt. Olive Cemetery, Felton, DE.
