Loredana Maria Mumaw age 73 passed away on the morning of September 23, 2024 surrounded by loved ones. She is survived by her husband John Mumaw of Harrington, DE her children John-Paul Mumaw of Florida, Ember Moldakhanova of Lynchburg, Virginia, and Hyatt Mumaw of Harrington, DE. She has seven grandchildren whose lives she was a big part of: Kurin Mumaw, Kayla Mumaw, Kaleb Moldakhanov, Mariam Moldakhanova, Azalea Moldakhanova, Aslan Moldakhanov and Willow Smith.
Lorie, as she was called by family and friends, was born in Italy and emigrated at the age of 10 to the United States. Her family settled in Washington, DC where her father worked at the Italian embassy and she graduated from Notre Dame Academy. Lorie went on to obtain a license as a Physician’s Assistant and worked in that capacity until she joined the ministry of the Navigators. It was through the Navigator community of Dover, Delaware that she met and fell in love with John Mumaw, through much correspondence.
John and Lorie welcomed the arrival of three children and in 1987 bought a home in Harrington, DE. Lorie by that time was a homemaker pouring her substantial gifts of nursing, teaching, and creativity into making a lively home. She soon joined the local Community Bible Study where she served as Children’s Director, and, eventually, Teaching Director for over 20 years. During that time she mentored many women, dedicated herself to the ministry of God’s word, and helped start new Bible studies even after retirement. She and John attended Calvary Wesleyan Church for many years, teaching in-depth Bible classes. She served for two decades as a coordinator and judge in the art department of the State Fair. She was well known for her generosity, her quilts and handiwork, and her gardens.
After retiring from teaching, Lorie had the pleasure of helping watch over her granddaughters, Kurin and Kayla Mumaw. She and John began to travel, and she especially enjoyed visiting botanical gardens. She and John also volunteered together at the Global Aid Network. Lorie began a ministry of quilts- gathering materials, machines, and other women to create beautiful quilts that were sent overseas to those in need. Together they donated over 2,000 quilts. She continued this ministry until prevented by her health.
Friends of the family are invited to visit the family home on Saturday, September 28th from 4-7pm at 316 Weiner Ave. Harrington, DE 19952.
Lorie is a longtime supporter of St. Jude’s and the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude’s in lieu of flowers.
