Leroy B. Copeland

Leroy B. Copeland, Felton, passed away at home on Saturday, December 25, 2021, he was 81.  He was born in Bad Axe, Michigan to the late, Roy and Anna Copeland.

Mr. Copeland was a driver, trainer, and owner of race horses.  He enjoyed training horses and loved harness racing.  He attended the horse races in person and if he could not be there, he enjoyed watching them on TV.  He also worked for a time with the track maintenance for Dover Downs and Harrington Raceway, and also as a starter of races for the Scarborough Track in Maine.  When he was not busy with the horses, he enjoyed being on the computer, going out to eat, and spending time with his family especially doing any horse related activities. He also loved to watch baseball and football.

Mr. Copeland will be remembered as a likable person who was always friendly and outgoing.  He loved his family greatly and will be missed.

Mr. Copeland enjoyed attending the United Church of Dover, and when he could not attend, he made sure to watch services online.  He was also a member of the U.S. Trotting Assoc.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Copeland; son, Vincent (Teri) Copeland; daughters, Cheryl (Mike) Spencer, Brenda (Leo) Sucharski, Monica (Marty Albright) Copeland; grandchildren, Nicole Copeland, Danielle Copeland, Sarah Spencer, Grant Spencer, Katelyn Stewart; his first wife, good friend and mother to his children, Catherine Copeland Wozniak; sisters, Joan (Glen) Mittlestat, Elaine (Dale) Hager; nieces and nephews, Melvin Mittlestat, Mark Mittlestat, Ruth Ann Matusik, Diane Sheridan, Mary L. Van Boven, Candie Hager, Nathan Hager; and stepsons, Roger Plant, Christopher Plant.

A Memorial service will be held on Friday, January 14, 2022, at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy, Harrington, at 2PM, with a visitation for family and friends starting at 1 PM.   A Memorial Service and burial will take place at a later date in Michigan.

In lieu of flowers, contributions directly to the funeral home to help offset expenses are greatly appreciated.
