Leo D. Back, 79

FELTON — Leo D. Back, retired Senior Master Sergeant, USAF, of Felton, passed away on Feb. 10, 2012, at home.  He was 79.

Mr. Back spent 21 years in the United States Air Force first as a jet mechanic and later as a flight engineer serving in both the Korean Conflict and Vietnam.  He was awarded the Airman’s Medal
which was the highest award given for non-combat action; he was very proud of his military career.

After retiring, he owned and operated the Felton Getty, Boulevard Getty and Georgetown Getty
Service Stations. Mr. Back was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren and all of their accomplishments. He was an avid poker player, a member of the Camden/Wyoming Moose Lodge, and the Walter L. Fox Post 2 American Legion.

Many friends and family have often heard one of his sayings, "A hundred years from now, it won’t make a bit of difference." When reflecting on his storied life, he would often say, "When I’ve crashed and burned, I’ve had a good life, I have traveled all over the world, and was fortunate to meet a lot of great people."

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd D. and Allie Back.

He is survived by his sons, Joseph D. Back and wife Elaina, Jack D. Back, David D. Back, and Daniel D. Back and his wife Dawn; daughters, Judy Letterman and her husband Mark, and Susan
L. Robbins; and grandchildren, Brandon Letterman, Wade Letterman, Bradley Back, Libby Back, and Alle Robbins.

Services will be noon, Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington, where a visitation will be one hour prior. Interment will be in Delaware Veterans Cemetery, Bear.
