Julia A. Quillen, of Milford, DE, passed away peacefully from the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford, surrounded by her loving family whom she cherished, on Friday, April 22, 2011, she was 71. She was born to the late John E. and Mary Porter Sr.
Mrs. Quillen was a homemaker. In her younger days, she belonged to a women’s softball team, as a pitcher, and travelled all over the East Coast, and even Bermuda. Needless to say, her love for sports was evident throughout her entire life. She enjoyed camping with her family, especially in Florida, and loved to go to yard sales. Along with her husband, she enjoyed being a part of the Southern Delaware Street Rod Association, and she especially enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Yvonne Quillen; and a brother, John E. Porter Jr.
Survivors include her loving husband of 52 years, Jimmie G. Quillen of Milford; son, Gordon L. Quillen and wife Terri of Milford; daughter, Trenda A. Fitzhugh and husband James of Milford; brothers, James Porter of Milton, Norman Porter of Harrington; sisters, Doris Greenlee of Milford, Joyce Shockley of Harrington; 5 grandchildren – Gordon Jr., Heather, Brittany, Summer, James; 2 great grandchildren – Brenden, Gage.
Services will be held on Friday, April 29, 2011,at 6 PM, at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
