John R Nowottnick, Sr.

John R. Nowottnick Sr., 89, Harrington, passed away on July 18, 2024 at home surrounded by his family. He was the son of the late August Nowottnick.

John was a hard worker who retired from Baltimore Gas & Electric as an assistant general manager. While he lived in Maryland, he was a member of the Knights of Pythias Friendship Lodge #8 in Edgewater and the Masonic Lodge #89 in Annapolis.

After retiring and moving to Harrington, John enjoyed working in the yard, feeding the wildlife, and watching Westerns on TV.  He was an outgoing man who liked to eat, and ride his motorcycle when he had one.

In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his son, Neil Nowottnick; brothers, James Nowottnick, and Robert Nowottnick; and a sister, Sarah Jane Ashley.

John is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Shirley Nowottnick; sons, John Nowottnick Jr (Valerie), William Nowottnick (Wanda), and John T. Dodson; daughter, Christina Guzman; daughter in law, Minia Nowottnick-Lynch; siblings, August L. Nowottnick, Bertha Thompson, Doris Ann Becraft, and Paul Nowottnick; 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and extended family.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at the Thomas E. Melvin & Son Funeral Home, Inc. 15522 S. DuPont Hwy., Harrington at 1 PM. A visitation will take place two hours prior starting at 11 AM.
