James I. Boyd, Sr., age 84, of Harrington, passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2015, from Silver Lake Nursing Home. Mr. Boyd was born in Greensboro, MD to the late Lewis and Pearl Boyd.
Mr. Boyd served his country proudly in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a driver for Preston Trucking for over 33 years, and a member of the Teamster Local Union 151. He was a hard worker who made sure his family was provided for and had everything they needed.
In his younger years, Mr. Boyd enjoyed riding and raising horses. He always had a big garden and enjoyed tending to it. Mr. Boyd enjoyed watching NASCAR on TV as well as wrestling, Hee Haw, and western movies. He also loved listening to his country music, and was a die hard Harley Davidson rider who loved to impress people in his younger years by riding standing up on the seat. His caring but ornery nature will be missed by all.
Mr. Boyd is preceded in death by his brothers, Bob, Clifton, and Sonny Boyd; and his sister, Shirley Tribbit.
Mr. Boyd is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Patricia Boyd of Harrington; sons, David (Tisha) Boyd of Felton, James (Karen) Boyd Jr. of Felton; daughters, Jean (Bob) Shahan of Harrington, Jackie Boyd of Harrington, Paula Boyd of Greenwood, Susan (Mike) Hofstetter of Felton; stepdaughters, Ginger (Mike) Stoops of Mesa, Arizona, Ann Weider of Georgetown; stepson, David (Donna) Boyer of Albuquerque, New Mexico; brother, Allen (Cindy) Boyd of Greensboro, MD; sister, Hazel (Ed) Kibbler of Goldsboro, MD;16 grandchildren, 26 great, and 8 great great grandchildren.
A service to celebrate his life will take place on Friday, August 14, 2015 at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington, at 1 PM. A visitation for family and friends will take place one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Hopkins Cemetery, Felton.
