Herman “Roland” Cohee, Sr., 81 of Milford, DE passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at Bayhealth Sussex Campus, Milford. He was the son of the late, Luella and Nelson Cohee.
Roland was a proud graduate of Dover High School, Class of 1963, and enjoyed attending the class alumni lunches. He worked at Playtex as the manager of international transportation for TR.AD. SE prior to retiring.
In his free time, he enjoyed traveling with his wife, especially on cruises. He was active with the theater part of the Milford Senior Center, and enjoyed watching NASCAR racing. Roland revered his Chevy SSR Super Sport “race truck” and displayed it at local car shows.
Roland was also very active with Temple Lodge No. 9 A.F & A.M where he once held the position of Worshipful Master, and was a Tiler of the Grand Lodge. But, rather than focus on his own accomplishments, he was most proud of his son’s accomplishments within the Masonic organization.
Most of all Roland dearly loved and was very protective of his family. He and his wife were foster parents for 21 years. It was rare to see Roland without his wife Donna by his side, and he was involved in activities with his children and grandchildren as they grew. One meaningful family activity, was going to the cemeteries on Black Friday to put flowers on the graves of family members for Christmas. Roland was the glue that held the family together. He also delighted in spoiling his pets, and had a love for dogs.
The best way to describe Roland is as a big teddy bear. He was bubbly, easy to get along with, a tad ornery, and was liked by everyone that met him. He will be dearly missed.
In addition to his parents, Roland is preceded in death by his daughter, Penny and granddaughter, Heather.
Roland is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Donna Cohee; son, H. Roland Cohee, Jr. (Carolyn); daughter, Dawn Weaver (David); brothers, H. Nelson Cohee, Jr. (Ruth Ann), Wayne Cohee (Shirley), Dale Cohee (Sandy); 7 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other extended family.
A Memorial Service celebrating Roland’s life, beginning with a Masonic presentation, will take place at 6:00 PM on Thursday, April 10, 2025 at the Thomas E. Melvin & Son Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Hwy., Harrington, DE. A visitation will take beginning at 5:00 PM. Private Interment at Sharon Hills Cemetery will take place at a later time.
