Harry Eugene Turner

d. June 30, 2025

Harry Eugene Turner, Greenwood, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, June 30, at the Hospice Center of Milford, he was 90.  Gene was born in Greensboro, MD to the late, James Bradford and Pearl Turner.

Gene attended Greensboro High School, where he enjoyed playing soccer.  After leaving high school, he enlisted in the United States Army on February 4, 1953, which began a 32 year career in military service, and completed his GED.  He served mostly in the Army, but did spend a few years in the Air Force, stationed in Dover, until he reenlisted back into the Army until his retirement on July 29, 1994.  Gene received the Occupation Medal for Germany as he did two tours in Germany.  Gene also served during war time in both the Korean Conflict and Vietnam and was a Chief Counter Intelligent Agent for the First Army headquartered in Fort Meade, MD.  To say he was proud of his military service was an understatement, if he could have, he would have stayed in longer.  Gene was also retired as a Maryland Marine Police Officer.

Gene enjoyed baking, gardening, reading, watching TV, and a good cup of coffee.  He loved listening to blue grass and classic country music.  Gene could fix just about anything with some good ole ingenuity and a roll of duct tape.  A little known fact about Gene was that he was fascinated with flying and was able to experience his dream of piloting by taking flying lessons.  In 1972, he served on the town council for Greensboro.  Gene was a member of the Masons, Calvary Wesleyan Church of Harrington, and also attended Ames Church in Denton, MD.  Gene always ensured that he and his family attended church faithfully.

Gene could be quite ornery.  He enjoyed a good laugh and had a great sense of humor.  He always greeted you with a big smile, warm hug, or hearty handshake.  He was always friendly, outgoing, and full of life, and will be greatly missed.

Gene is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Beverly Turner; son, Mark "Brad" Bradford Turner (Susan); daughters, Gina Suzanne Collins (Lee), Lynda Dorraine Wyatt (David); grandchildren, Cari Siegers, Jeremiah Collins, Ryan Collins, Aaron Collins, Laura Jean Wyatt-Crites, Taylor Turner, Lindsey Turner, Grace Turner; 14 great grandchildren and extended family.

A funeral service will take place on Monday, July 7, 2025 at 1 PM, at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Hwy, Harrington, with a visitation starting at 11 AM.  Interment will take place  at Hollywood Cemetery with military honors.
