Harold "Joe" Cessna

d. December 1, 2015

Harold J. "Joe" Cessna passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2015, from the Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital.  He was 77.  Joe was born in Frostburg, MD to the late Harold and Evelyn Cessna.

Joe served his country proudly in the United States Air Force.  He served actively for 20 years before he went into the Civil Service where he served for 17 years until his retirement.  Joe worked diligently for Price Honda for the past 15 years, mostly in the service department.  He was a great asset for Price Honda, and loved working there.

Joe loved cars.  Those three little words best describes his passion that he had for automobiles.  In his younger days, he loved to do restorations.  He loved fast cars, and loved his AMGs and Corvettes.  He was a former member of the Corvette Stingray Club.  He was so meticulous with the cars that he owned, that people waited in line for his trade-ins because they knew the car would be as good as knew, because of the care he gave them.  He went so far as to periodically remove the wheels to clean them from the inside.  His garage was full of almost every car care product known to man.  His opinions and experience with cars mattered so much that he often was called upon by friends to give his opinion on automobiles.

Joe also loved animals.  St. Michaels was a favorite place to visit to be near the water, and to enjoy some good food.  He loved jazz music and enjoyed going to jazz concerts like the ones at the Lancaster Music Theater.  Joe will be remembered as being sociable, friendly, and with a great sense of humor.  He was very compassionate with a heart bigger then his body.  He will be greatly missed.

Joe was preceded in death by his first wife, Maxine L. Cessna; and a daughter, Samantha Cessna.

He is survived by his wife of 3 years, Ruth E. Cessna of Magnolia; son, Christopher (Karen) Cessna of Harrington; sisters, Joan O'Rouke of Silver Spring, MD, Barbara Matucci of Rodchester, NY; 2 grandchildren, Jessica (Patrick) Schlimer, Katie (fiance-Dustin Yencer) Cessna; and one great grandchild on the way.

Services will take place at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington, on Monday, December 7, 2015, at 1 PM.  A visitation for family and friends will take place one hour prior to the service.  Interment will be at Barratts Chapel Cemetery, Frederica.
