Haley Joyce Detter-Kelley, 13

HARRINGTON — Haley Joyce Detter-Kelley, born June 12, 2001, passed away on Mon., May 4, 2015.

Haley was an eighth grade student at W. T. Chipman Middle School. In school, she was an exceptional student who excelled in her academics and was well liked by everybody. She loved to sing, and was part of the chorus in school.  She looked forward to attending Polytech next year and starting construction classes to learn the ins and outs of construction. She felt that would be useful as she planned on pursuing a career as a real estate agent upon graduation. She was also looking forward to being a cheerleader and part of the drama club at Polytech.

After school activities included bowling and softball. Every Saturday morning she bowled for the Young American Bowling Alliance. She was also gifted at and loved playing softball with the Harrington Little League  - Women of the Moose Softball Team.  Haley was also heavily involved with her church, Calvary Wesleyan of Harrington. She enjoyed volunteering in the nursery, because of her love for children, and being part of the teen group, United.

Haley will be fondly remembered for her loving and caring heart. She was always smiling and always had a hug for everyone. She had a compassionate servants heart and was always doing for others. This was apparent not only with her volunteer work at church, but also for the Salvation Army, and the “Feed the Thousands” program through Mountaire Farms. She had a love for life that was insurmountable.  She loved her family dearly, especially her brothers and sisters, and loved to play with them. Her zest for life and loving and compassionate nature will forever be missed by her family and countless friends.

Haley was preceded in death by a grandmother, Elaine Detter.

She is survived her parents, Ann and Joseph Kelley, as well as William C. and Robin Detter; siblings, Scott P. Kelley of Harrington, Savannah E. Kelley of Harrington, George J. Detter of Smyrna, William Craig Detter Jr. of Wilmington, Kelsey Skrzec of Newark; grandparents, George and Kathleen Bush, Michael and Donna Kelley, David Detter; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Celebration of Life Service will take place on Sat., May 9, 2015, at the Calvary Wesleyan Church, 240 Delaware Avenue, Harrington, at 11:30 a.m. Visitation will take place the same day starting at 10 a.m. Interment will take place at Hollywood Cemetery.
