Elwood "Woody" Poore

Elwood W. “Woody” Poore, 79 of Houston, DE passed away at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, August 3, 2025. He was the son of the late Wilson R and Martha J. Poore.

Woody helped on the family farm as a child. After graduation from high school, he served in the Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Following his enlistment, he worked for and retired from DelDOT and UPS.  He also owned and operated LP Overseeding Plus lawn care company.

In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time in his shop tinkering on old cars and built quite a few. When he and Linda married, he had a 55 Ford T-bird that he had rebuilt. He also enjoyed tinkering with old tractors. He was never one to sit still and always had to be doing something. He cherished time spent with his family, and taking care of his grand daughter Angel. While he was blunt and no nonsense, with a tough love demeanor, he had a kind side that loved being around and talking to people.

In addition to his parents, Woody was preceded in death by his brother, H. Raymond Poore, Sr.

Woody is survived by his wife of 23 years, Linda Poore; step children Bruce and Bradley Hampton; grandchildren, Angel, Harper, Abigail and Aiden, and other extended family.

A graveside service with military honors will take place on Thursday, August 7, 2025 at Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington, DE at 11:00 AM.
