Elizabeth "Betty" D. Stayton

Elizabeth "Betty" D. Stayton, Harrington, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at the Delaware Hospice Center, she was 98.  She was born in Frederica, DE to the late, James H. Dare Sr. and Elizabeth Simpson.

Mrs. Stayton graduated from Dover High School in 1943 and a graduate of Milford School of Nursing where she received her nursing degree in 1946.

As a registered nurse, she worked at Milford Memorial Hospital then at the South Daytona Hospital in Florida.  After moving back to Frederica, Delaware, she owned and operated The Jack & Jill Nursing for many years.  She then went to work for Milford Manor, retiring as the Director of Nurses in 1988.

After retiring, she enjoyed doing crafts, and was a NASCAR fan.  She was a member of the Harrington Senior Center and Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6487.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Arthur E. "Gene" Stayton; daughter, Connie Lynn; brother, James H. Dare; and a sister in law, Charlotte Dare.

Mrs. Stayton is survived by her son, John Eugene Stayton and wife Joyce; seven nephews and two nieces.

A Graveside Service will be at 11 AM, on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at the Barratts Chapel Cemetery, Frederica, DE.
