HARRINGTON - Edith M. Nelson of Harrington, passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. She was 91. She was the daughter of the late Carl I. and Esther May Cross.
Mrs. Nelson worked as an administration assistant for a major mechanical contractor for many years. She was also briefly a licensed real estate agent. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening and crocheting. She loved being a homemaker and keeping a tidy home.
She will be remembered as a warm and compassionate person with a strong will. She had a sharp active mind who loved to debate politics and anything else she felt compassionate about. Her good sense of humor and loving nature will be sorely missed.
She was a past member of the Catonsville United Methodist Church and active in their Sweet Adeline Group. She was a current member of the Avenue United Methodist Church in Milford where she was a member of the Circle Group as well as the BCF Bible study group.
She is survived by her loving husband of 72 years, Ferd Nelson of Harrington; daughters, Linda (Thomas J.) Spiegel of Catonsville, Md. and Carol Ann (Bruce E.) Weaver of Milford; brother, Carl E. Cross of Ellicott City, Md.; special friend, Barbara French; five grandchildren, Tiffani Lynne, Amanda May, Jessica A., Eric C., Jonathon P.; six great grandchildren, Madison, Ashton, Owen, Lauryn, Landon and Colton.
Services will be 12 p.m., Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery, Millsboro.
