Edith Elizabeth Murray Hurd, 92

MILFORD — Edith Elizabeth Murray Hurd passed away Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014 at her home with er loving family by her side. She was born in Kingwood, W. Va. to the late Marshall R. and Susie A. Snyder Murray.

Mrs. Hurd was a homemaker who lovingly raised her children in a Christian home. She raised her 10 children with discipline and kept them all in line. Their home resembled the Walton Family. Her discipline even was seen by the grandchildren as they came along one by one.

Mrs. Hurd loved to cook. Holidays were always spent at her home with the delicious aroma of home cooked meals. She loved family gatherings and her home was always open to anyone whether family or not. She dearly loved her southern gospel music. Every Friday night and Saturdays too, her family would gather at her house for a country hoedown. The guitars would come out and a good time was had by all with the singing and playing. As a family, they would oftentimes be asked to sing in area churches, something they enjoyed tremendously.

She also enjoyed making ceramics, word searches, and going to Dairy Queen on Sundays. When she was younger, she enjoyed going on bike rides and jumping double dutch. She was extremely agile and could jump a broom while holding it. She loved her animals as well and especially loved her cat “Sweetie”. Mrs. Hurd was the true matriarch of her family. She would check on every family member at night to see how they were doing and to say, I Love You. She raised a tight knit family, although discipline was on the forefront, she was always fair. She taught her children to choose friends wisely, and when they got married one by one, she loved their spouses as one of her own. Her sense of humor and loving sweet nature will be sadly missed.

Mrs. Hurd was a member of the Milford Church of the Nazarene, AARP, and the Senior Center.

She was preceeded in death by her husband, Robert W. Hurd Sr.; children, Mary Beth Hurd, Sandy Hurd Williams, Marshall Preston Hurd, Loretta Hurd Muller; brothers, Darrell Murray, Gerald
Murray, Wesley Murray, Donald Murray; sisters, Winifred Murray Hurd, Lenora Murray Hurd.
