FELTON — Grace Starkey passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2012, at home
surrounded by the family she loved.
Mrs. Starkey worked at the Ace Dress Factory for over 25 years as a head seamstress. She also worked alongside her husband on the family farm. Together, they operated a vegetable stand on the farm for over 34 years. Their children and grandchildren helped out at the stand as well.
Mrs. Starkey was a true disciple of God. She attended church all her life, and was a member of the Pilgrim Holiness Church which later became Calvary Wesleyan Church in Harrington. She taught Sunday school for over 33 years, and was instrumental in starting the Ladies Bible Study Group, which gathered once a week. She loved to tell others about Jesus and was a true prayer warrior for the church. Saying the church was her life, is an understatement, as she enjoyed spreading the Word her whole life.
As the matriarch of the family farm, Mrs. Starkey made sure all were fed well. She was an excellent cook, and always made sure everyone stopped for lunch and had a home cooked meal to recharge. Her culinary skills were so well known, salesman oftentimes made sure to stop around noon time where an extra plate would be set out. Mrs. Starkey also enjoyed sewing and travelling. She enjoyed
rides through Lancaster County. She loved to collect dolls and bears and loved to display them.
Her personality was always positive, upbeat, and thankful. She saw the good in everybody and everything, and never said a bad word about anybody. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and they were her life. She enjoyed watching them play on the farm and they always knew to go see granny to get some candy or chocolate which she always had waiting for them. She enjoyed having fun and had a peculiar laugh that was infectious. Her sweet graceful presence
will forever be missed by her family and her church family.
Preceded in death by her husband Roland Starkey; brother, John Willey; sisters, Ethel Hughes, Anna Mason, Mae Kemp.
Grace is survived by; sons and daughter in laws, Donald Ray (Pauline) Starkey of Felton,Louis B. (Connie) Starkey of Felton; five grandchildren; 18 greatgrandchildren ; two great- great -grandchildren.
Service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, August 10, 2012, at Calvary Wesleyan Church, Harrington. Visitation will be Thursday August 9, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington. Interment will be at Hollywood Cemetery.
