Douglas H. Legates

Douglas Harold Legates of Harrington, passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, September 22, 2021.  He will be remembered by so many as very few were strangers to Douglas.  He was born in Milford, DE, the son of Henrietta and Paul Legates.  He graduated from Lake Forest High School.  For 30 years, Douglas worked construction for George and Lynch, Kaye Construction, and Tilcon, where he ran heavy equipment.  In 2015, Doug became disabled and retired.

Douglas was a member of the American Legion Post 7 for 30 years.  He could often be found tinkering in his garage.  Camping and being on the water crabbing or fishing were among some of his favorite past times.  Many weekends were spent watching NASCAR as he was an avid Dale Earnhardt Sr. fan.  Doug also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends who would visit frequently.

He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Donna Legates son, Robert Cubbage and his wife Christine, many nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles, and friends.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Henrietta Legates whom he loved dearly.

Services for Doug will be on Monday, September 27, at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy, Harrington, at 1 PM.  A visitation for family and friends will start at 12 noon.  Interment will take place at the Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the America Diabetes Association.
