Dorotha M. Wheeler

Dorotha Meredith Wheeler, 94, of Felton, DE, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025. Born in Caroline County, MD, on July 31st, 1930, Dorotha led a life dedicated to her children, grandchildren, and beloved Dauchsund, Chief.

Dorotha moved into the Felton home her father built in 1951. This is where she raised her two sons and lived through the 1967 Felton tornado. She worked hard all her life, spending several years as owner of the Dover Diner where she shared great food and lively conversation with Delaware State Troopers, Dover Police Department Officers, as well as congressmen and the surrounding community. After she sold the Diner, Dorotha worked in the cafeteria at General Foods for 20 years and then she took a job at Dover Downs where she was a hostess for another 20 years, fully retiring in 2020. Dorotha enjoyed sitting in the sun, shopping as often as she could, watching Jeff Gordon’s NASCAR races, and she especially enjoyed raising her Dachshunds.

Dorotha was preceeded in death by her parents, Frank and Virgie Meredith.

Dorotha is survived by two sons, Wayne Wheeler and his wife, Pat, of Felton, and Donald Wheeler and his wife, Becky, of Grand Bay, AL; two granddaughters, Terra Havens and her husband, Kris, of Lexington Park, MD, and Meredith Wheeler of Viola; six great-grandchildren, Morgan Havens, Kasidey Crockett, Skyler Crockett, Mackenzie Havens, Abbey Crockett, and Garytt Havens; and one great-great-grandson, Mayson.

Friends are invited to pay their respects at Dorotha’s home on August 2nd from 2-4 pm. A private, family service will follow.
