Doris Effie Larimore

d. July 22, 2024

Doris Effie Larimore, Harrington, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 22, 2024, at home surrounded by her loving family, she was 91.  She was born in Andrewville, DE to the late, Maurice and Lelia Wright.

Doris worked the family farm alongside her husband for many years.  She could be found doing the hard labor or even running the tractors and combines.  All the hard work over the years paid off, because in 2020 the farm was nominated and won the Farm Family Award.  She was never far apart from her husband, and when you saw one, the other was close by.  She also drove a school bus for many years, and was a postal carrier for over 23 years.  Needless to say, she was always on the move and never one to stand still.  She did enjoy watching the Baltimore Orioles play, traveling to Florida yearly and to Pennsylvania, and she spent a lot of time working and enjoying her Koi pond.

Doris was a member of the Union United Methodist Church of Burrsville, MD where she played piano for over 70 years, and also a Sunday School teacher.  She will be remembered for her love of God and family.  She was a devoted and caring wife, mother, and grandmother who always put her family first.  She was never one to complain about anything and she will be sadly missed by all those whose lives she touched.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to Doris's caretakers who went above and beyond to care for her the past 4 years, Jackie Figart and Sabrina Reid.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, James H. "Murph" Larimore; and sisters, Janice L. Baker, Sharon L. Wright.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Larry (Sharon) Larimore, Barb (Guy) Baynard, Randy (Sherri) Larimore, Pat (Susie) Larimore; siblings, Ronnie (Shirleen) Wright, Bobby (Sylvia) Wright;  grandchildren, Julie Murphy, Jennifer Parson, Jeremy Larimore, Ashlie Deneau, Rachel Foster, Ben Larimore, Jason Larimore, Lisa Melenka, Hunter Baynard; 16 great grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.

A Funeral Service will be on Tuesday, July 30, at 1 PM, at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington, DE.  A public visitation will be Monday evening, July 29th, from 6 to 8 PM, and one hour prior to the service, also at the funeral home.  Interment will be at the Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations be made to the Delaware Hospice, https://delawarehospice.org/donate/ ; or Union UMC of Burrsville, MD, which can be mailed c/o Ginger Hendricks 2378 Ingram Branch Rd., Harrington, DE 19952.
