Doris Kates

Doris Kates, 82, of Harrington, passed away Sunday evening, Nov. 20, 2016, surrounded by her family in her home.  She was the daughter of the late, Gray and Emma Mae Williamson.

Mrs. Kates’ life was her family, and she took pride and satisfaction in being a homemaker.  She loved nothing more than to spend time with her family.  It did not matter where the family wanted to go, she was willing to travel, especially her favorite destination, the beach.  Mrs. Kates often packed a meal for the many outings and she enjoyed having Sunday family dinners.  She enjoyed going to the grandchildren’s sporting events and being an active part of their lives.

Mrs. Kates liked to shop, watch the horse races, and putting puzzles together.  One of her favorite activities was attending the Delaware State Fair each year.  She was often found sitting in “Kates’ corner”.  She was a mild mannered lady who was loved by everyone and will be dearly missed.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Kates is preceded in death by her daughter, Faye Kates-Moore; brothers, Clarence “Nub” Williamson and Ray Williamson; sisters, Louise Thomas and June Roe.

Mrs. Kates is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Linwood Kates of Harrington; son, Roger Kates; daughters, Linda (Herb) Barlow, Connie (Ed) Thompson, and Ruth (Gary) Peterman; sisters, Gladys Yeako and Betty Hammond; grandchildren, Steve and Tim Gray, Kyle Peterman, David, Jason and Melissa Moore; great grandchildren, Rosalynn, Zoey, Aubrey, Bristol and Jason Jr.

Memorial services will be Sunday, November 27, at   Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington at 2pm.  A visitation for family and friends will take place one hour prior.

The family requests donations to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Hwy, Dover, DE 19901 in lieu of flowers.
